Several tips are shown to us to help in the process of academic writing and some questions are addressed in order to “kill” the myths about this process, such as the perfect first draft, what is impossible because we need to review what we wrote.
Tips to plan what will be written also are mentioned in these material, even though have different opinions about it, both intend to show us techniques to turn the process of academic writing easier, such as planning an argument, analyzing the task and an effective argument.
The importance of Academic Writing is a point which also is pointed out. Both video and text consider this kind of writing more than the act of write because involves critic thinking, a convincing argument and good researches about the theme. All this process helps us in other activities, such as participate in a debate. Both video and text are very interesting because show us how academic writing is simple to understand and do.

  5. According our discussion in class, academic writing is a particular style with some characteristics, such as audience, purpose, etc. Both the video and the text showed techniques of writing. I thought the text explored more. The video showed a more superficial way. Both consider academic writing as something more.

  6. As we can see both text and video talk about academic writing, they show us the main caracteristics of this specific genre, they also explain that academic works are related to researches and analyses.
In spite of this, text and video have some different aspects. The text is more complete, it uses examples to show each step of academic writing. On the other hand, the video is more objective about the subject and it also discuss about academic English, one topic that is related to the variety of English (written and spoken), which is not mentioned in the text.
